The postoperative period and physiotherapy: improving patient discomfort

In our aesthetic clinic in Madrid, as a result of many years of experience in plastic surgery, we perform specific and specialized protocols with all our patients after surgery.

Many years ago, we incorporated physiotherapy in our clinic to make the postoperative period more comfortable, faster and less painful for all our patients.

But recently, we wanted to go a step further, and we do not limit ourselves to treat our patients after their surgeries, of the operated area, but we have a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, who the day after the surgeries, treat patients of the discomfort after any type of surgery.

There are many people who complain of back pain, neck pain, headaches and other discomforts, as a result of the hours they have spent in the operating room, in not exactly comfortable positions, while they were operated on.

For this reason, and before the physiotherapy sessions of each surgery, which usually begin 15 days after the operation, our physiotherapists treat the discomfort and possible sequelae of our patients, in the days immediately following their surgery.

This type of sessions are completely free for our patients, being a very positive experience for them and that greatly improves the discomfort added to those of the intervention itself.

In any type of operation, both the preparation of the patient before the operation, as well as the specific aftercare, are basic to achieve not only a good experience in the patient, but also to achieve optimal results.

We have had in the past, cases of patients who have gone to external physiotherapists, unfamiliar with aesthetic operations, and have come to produce completely negative effects on patients, even affecting scars or other aesthetic aspects.

On the other hand, specific analgesia is another very careful and detailed point in our clinic. Patients cannot be over-medicated, nor under-medicated.

It is clear that if they are prescribed less medication than they need, they will be uncomfortable and their evolution will be more complicated, but it is not a matter of over-medicating patients, with the possible consequences that this can also have on their organism.

An exhaustive and completely personalized control is the best solution in these cases.

In some cases, even the postoperative process is completed with the dietician of our Clinic, who is in charge of prescribing specific diets to facilitate the intestinal transit in the days following the surgery, which is usually altered, due to nerves and fear in many occasions of possible discomfort, especially in intimate and abdominal surgeries.

All these small details, united and well coordinated by the plastic surgeon, who is ultimately responsible for the patient, make the satisfaction rate at Clinica Granado Tiagonce, is very high; of course the results have to be optimal, but excellence is not only based on good results, in our experience, medical excellence, should also cover the entire pre and post-surgical process with the patient, managing to establish a true relationship of trust and tranquility between doctor-patient, which will certainly improve the whole process.
