Trichophytic Suture Technique: Advancement in Hair Surgery

The trichophytic closure is a special type of surgical technique used in hair micro-implant surgery by the FUSS method and serves to minimize and even completely eliminate the annoying linear scar that with traditional closure used to remain in the donor area. It is a technique that combines local plastias with a special scalloped suture and a partial defenestration of some of the surgical edges.

The most commonly used is the lower edge technique discovered by Dr. Frechet, and it is a very specialized technique restricted to the field of plastic surgery, whose merit is to allow the hair of the donor area to grow through the resulting scar, making it disappear and completely normalizing the appearance of that area.

Advantages of the technique

This type of technique should always be performed on males, especially young men, who usually wear their hair very short, although it can also be applied to women. However, it is not usual, because women tend to heal very well and usually always wear their hair long, so this type of closure is not usually necessary in them.

With this procedure we achieve practically the disappearance of the scar in the donor area, which is an important aesthetic advance that allows the patient to use the hair length he/she wants, avoiding the presence of marks at that level.

Previous considerations

The main consideration to take into account is the elasticity of the patient’s skin. In first surgeries it can always be performed, but in second surgeries, when the patient already has a previous implant, the elasticity of the skin must be carefully evaluated to ensure that the surgical closure is compliant.

Another aspect to consider, although more secondary, is the constitutional way of healing of the patient, the natural quality of the scars, which are normally always good on the scalp. In very old patients or with associated pathologies in which surgical times should be shortened as much as possible, it should not be performed either. This type of technique does not involve any additional risk to the basic procedure of surgery, not involving in itself any danger or added risk to the patient.

Almost immediate results

The results of this technique begin to be seen within a few weeks of the intervention, as soon as the hair from the donor area begins to grow through the scar, covering it with hair and covering it in a very natural way, homogenizing the entire back of the head to the point that in most cases the scar cannot be detected.
