What genital rejuvenation techniques are available?

Menopause, childbirth or the passage of time can cause functional and aesthetic alterations in the external genitalia. Gynecoaesthetics tries to solve them through three types of procedures: surgical, cosmetic and laser.

Surgical techniques

They include methods of resection, cutting and suturing. The objective is to restore the appearance and functionality of the female genital area. Among them are the resection of labia minora, labiaplasty or nymphoplasty, or the reduction of the entrance to the vagina, vaginoplasty. The postoperative period is usually painless thanks to local anesthesia with 24 hours of duration.

Cosmetic procedures

Applied to improve the quality and appearance of the skin and mucous membranes. Platelet-rich serum injections are obtained from the patient’s own blood and filtered into the skin of the vulva and vaginal walls. Another option is hyaluronic acid skin injections to increase the volume of the mons pubis and labia majora.

Fractional laser

A tubular probe is inserted into the vagina through which the laser is applied, a beam of light that passes through the vaginal walls until it reaches the deepest layer of the vagina. This causes the regeneration of the natural collagen, increasing the contraction and lubrication of the vaginal canal. It is a painless procedure that lasts about 20 minutes. A monthly session is recommended for 2 or 3 months.

Patients who usually resort to this type of treatment have an excessive or asymmetrical growth of the labia minora creating an aesthetic complex or discomfort in their daily life. It is also chosen by women between the ages of 25 and 45 after natural childbirth or women over 50 with signs of aging.
