Gynecologic Cancer: Diagnosis and Treatment

When we talk about gynecological oncology we refer to all cancerous processes that affect women, so the concept includes ovarian cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, etc….

The study of gynecological cancer has undergone a great evolution in recent years in terms of diagnosis, treatment and surgical techniques. Generally speaking, it can be said that the basic and fundamental element for curing this type of pathology is early detection.

This not only increases the success rate in eradicating the disease, but also offers other benefits.

The importance of early cancer detection in the field of gynecologic oncology has given great importance to regular check-ups with ultrasound, mammography and MRI.

Types of gynecological cancer

  • Ovarian cancer: this is not the most common cancer, but it is among the first three. Almost half of the causes of death in women in the oncological field are caused by this cancer.
Detecting the disease early will once again be fundamental in order to be able to cure it. Transvaginal ultrasounds are performed during check-ups and laparoscopy is used to treat the area.
  • Cancer of the uterus: this is the most common cancer in the female genital area and the second most frequent in gynecological oncology, only surpassed by breast cancer. However, in Spain endometrial and ovarian cancer is more frequent.
  • Endometrial cancer: this is the second most frequent cancer in Spain and to identify it, periodic check-ups should be carried out, using vaginal ultrasound and diagnostic hysteroscopy.
  • Breast cancer: this is the most frequent cancerous pathology in gynecological oncology, being the most frequent of all types of cancer affecting women.

In the event that surgical intervention is necessary, it is important to go to specialist centers with trained and experienced doctors.

Comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to gynecologic oncology. New techniques for a comprehensive oncological approach

Traditional gynecologic oncology has spent the last decades exploring the evolution of diagnostic techniques, perfecting them along with their treatment and surgical procedures.

These are procedures that serve as a complement to the medical techniques commonly used in gynecological chronology. These are measures that are widely used in other countries, such as the United States, although in Europe they are just beginning to make their way.

These techniques are divided into four areas: mind-body medicine, biological practices, manipulative practices and energetic therapies. The last three have an intense relationship with plants and the benefits that can be obtained from the plant world, osteopathy….

On the other hand, mind-body medicine is based on techniques aimed at reducing as much as possible the stress that is generated in the body with the presence of the disease. Thus, the quality of life is improved by involving the patient’s mind, strengthening her psychological capacity so that she can master her organic function and better control the symptoms of the disease.

These techniques include meditation, relaxation and progressive relaxation, psychosocial interventions…

Benefits of mind-body medicine

The benefits can be summarized in the following positive results for the patient:

  • Positive evolution of the patient in her physical state.
  • She manages to master her bodily self-regulation
  • Elimination of emotional behavioral habits
  • Reinforcement of mental integrity
  • Development of the ability to practice relaxation techniques.
  • Strengthening of the immune system

Although these practices still generate some misgivings about their efficacy among some specialists, the international scientific community considers the benefits of these procedures to be undeniable.
