2,000 runners meet in Barcelona to raise awareness of rare diseases

The I Cursa per l’Esperança was held last Sunday in Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum with the participation of 2,000 runners. The aim of this initiative organized by the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) is to raise awareness of the situation of more than three million people in Spain with this type of disease. The event, which featured two races, a 5km and a 10km, had the collaboration of Dr. Angel Bigas Bonamusa, Sports Physician and member of Top Doctors, and the Clínica del Corredor, where Dr. Bigas develops his work as a doctor. The medical center offered a free physiotherapy service for all runners.

Throughout the day, the FEDER torch was present, as a symbol of strength, courage and overcoming, signs of identity of individuals and families who have to fight against rare diseases. To be considered as rare diseases, they must affect less than 5 people per 10,000 inhabitants, and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are currently about 7,000 pathologies of this type affecting 7% of the population.
