Campaign for the early detection of visual pathologies in children

New technologies may be behind new cases of myopia in younger and younger patients. For this reason, the clinic of Dr. González Costea, specialist in Ophthalmology at Top Doctors, is carrying out visual screenings in some schools in Murcia, a social work to detect ocular pathologies in children of 4 years of age.

Dr. González Costea explained on Onda Cero that helping children helps to avoid more serious pathologies in adulthood. In fact, in many schools there are undiagnosed children, cases of which neither parents nor teachers have prior knowledge.

However, it is important to emphasize that screening does not replace medical consultation, but it does provide an initial detection of certain pathologies. Thanks to the screening it is possible to check the ocular motility of children, that it is synchronous and that there are no hidden deviations.

Tips to avoid visual pathologies in children

The use of tablets, cell phones and the proximity to the television can be a factor causing myopia. To avoid this, Dr. González Costea recommends that children should spend at least 2 hours a day outdoors, as several studies have shown their effectiveness in the prevention of different ocular pathologies.

“Visual screening: we look after what you love the most”. This is the name of the campaign being carried out by Dr. González Costea’s clinic and which will continue to be active in some schools in Murcia.
