Euromelanoma: skin cancer prevention campaign

Under the slogan “Don’t let a late diagnosis make you leave early”, the Euromelanoma campaign has been launched on the occasion of World Skin Cancer Prevention Day, which is celebrated every year on June 13, focusing on the prevention and diagnosis of skin cancer. There are different factors that predispose to the development of this cancer. The campaign website offers the option of taking a test and if the result is that the person falls within the risk group, he or she will be able to access a totally free check-up by a dermatologist.

The Euromelanoma campaign encourages the population to have a monthly skin check-up. Therefore, the body should be checked front and back, preferably in front of a mirror.

The DERMIK Dermatology Clinic and the DERMATOLOGIC DIAGNOSIS CENTER, both Top Doctors centers of excellence, have joined this campaign with the aim of making people aware of the importance of skin cancer prevention.

People over 50 years of age and those with a history of sunburn in childhood are the two groups most at risk for this type of cancer. The risk also increases with the use of tanning booths, prolonged exposure to the sun, having multiple moles or atypical moles, among others. The level of risk depends on the intensity of sunlight, the time of exposure and whether the skin has been protected or not.

To prevent skin cancer, it is not only necessary to use sunscreen, but also to avoid exposure to the sun during the hours of greatest intensity or to use protective accessories such as a cap or sunglasses. The sun brings numerous benefits to the human being, but as long as it is done with protection. Among some of its benefits are the strengthening of bones and teeth, the improvement of the appearance of the skin, the depressive state and the quality of sleep.
