The American Academy awards Dr. Jorge Alió

Dr. Jorge Alió has been recognized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) with the ‘Life Achievement Honor Award’ for his professional career and his “contributions to ocular surgery and the solution of ocular diseases” and also for his contributions to the institution’s congresses.

The Spanish medical professional is the first to receive this award, which symbolizes a persevering commitment to progress and a positive impact on the visual health of patients,” acknowledges the AAO.

The member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community also received the award at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Chicago, another award in which he stands out for being the only Spanish physician to have obtained it.

Dr. Alió stands out for his studies with stem cells with the aim of curing advanced keratoconus and the development of an innovative technique to change eye color for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes. His research has been published in the book ‘Text and Atlas on Corneal Pigmentation,’ which is used by ophthalmologists around the world on keratopigmentation.
