The gynecologic laser: rejuvenation and labiaplasty

After events that cause major physical changes in women such as pregnancy, childbirth and menopause, the vaginal walls lose thickness, elasticity and the pelvic floor distends. Vaginal relaxation syndrome and urine leakage occur.

This problem is usually solved by surgery, but now it can also be solved using the gynecological laser. With one or two sessions of this CO2 laser, urinary incontinence (mild/moderate), vaginal dryness and vaginal relaxation and even vaginal remodeling have a quick solution.

Urine leakage

Women over 50 years of age are the most affected by urine leakage. Faced with situations of greater effort, such as sneezing or playing sports, those affected are unable to control their bladder. In these cases the treatment can be the CO2 laser – GyneLase.

It is very simple and painless, since first an intravaginal anesthetic cream is applied. Then, the laser head is introduced and applied on the vaginal walls to tighten the muscles. Increasing the tonicity of the walls helps to keep the urine bladder in its correct position avoiding urine leakage.

After treatment, it is advisable to use a vaginal lubricant and not to have sexual intercourse for a week. In total between one and three sessions are needed, although it will depend on the age and the degree of loss. This technique is currently the preferred one because it does not involve unwanted side effects and allows immediate return to work.

Vaginal dryness and itching

There are numerous factors that favor vaginal dryness: menopause, genetics, depression. They cause atrophy of the vaginal mucosa, thinning of the walls and lack of lubrication. This causes itching, sores, tightness or even pain during sexual intercourse. In the same way, CO2 laser can remedy the problem; it can be complemented with hyaluronic acid.

Thanks to this treatment, the hydration of the mucosa is restored, which reduces intimate itching, dryness, tightness and improves sexual intercourse.

Vaginismus

Vaginismus occurs when the muscles of the vagina contract and do not allow sexual penetration, which causes pain. Eight percent of women suffer from it, mostly young women. It can be induced by psychological or organic causes. If the cause is the latter, it is due to decreased vaginal secretion. There can be several degrees, the most severe (it is not explorable by the gynecologist, nor can a finger enter) must be treated surgically.

With the application of CO2 laser a regeneration of the mucosa is achieved and if combined with hyaluronic acid, the tissues are relaxed and hydrated.

Labiaplasty

This technique is used to reduce or reshape hypertrophic (overdeveloped) or large labia minora. It usually occurs due to age, childbirth or previous surgeries.

It is usually recommended when:

  • The labia are excessively large and have an unattractive appearance.
  • The lips are easily visible (through underwear or bikinis).
  • Tissues cause frequent rashes or vulvar irritation (vestibulitis).
  • The labial tissues are asymmetrical

Labiaplasty is a simple surgery that trims the labia minora using a Z-plasty technique. In contrast, laser labiaplasty will perform the cut with the CO2 laser, gaining in precision and decreasing the invasiveness of the surgery.
