Aesthetic or gynecological aesthetic gynecology

Aesthetic gynecology or gynecoaesthetics is a subspecialty of gynecology that encompasses treatments aimed at improving the appearance and function of the external female genitalia: the vulva and vagina. As well as improving satisfaction in sexual relations.

Types of interventions

Within gynecoesthetics there are three procedures that, depending on the patient, are usually combined: conventional surgical interventions, laser treatments or cosmetic treatments. The most commonly performed operations are.

  • Labiaplasty or nymphoplasty: a resection of the labia minora is performed. This surgery is common in young girls who present an excessive or asymmetrical growth of the labia minora. In addition to the aesthetic complex, they may have discomfort with very tight pants, bathing suits or when practicing sports.
  • Vaginoplasty, operation in which the entrance of the vagina is reduced. Patients who come to consult for this intervention are women between 25 and 45 years who have discomfort after childbirth with painful episiotomies and / or dilation of the vagina.
  • Treatment of urinary incontinence or genital prolapse. More frequent pathologies in women over 50 years old who present signs of aging of the genital area such as vaginal dryness, prolapse and urine leakage.

These interventions are performed in about 90 minutes and under general anesthesia. The patient can go home 2 hours after the operation.

Postoperative

The postoperative period is usually very painless because the area is anesthetized for 24 hours and also prescribed a local cream and anti-inflammatory. Patients can return to their normal life one week after the operation but sexual relations cannot be maintained until 4 weeks after the operation.

Cosmetic treatment

Within gynecoesthetics several non-surgical treatments can be performed such as vaginal rejuvenation and augmentation of the mons pubis and labia majora. Platelet-rich plasma or hyaluronic acid are applied respectively to achieve the required results. Both are performed in the doctor’s office without the need for anesthesia.
