Buttock Augmentation Techniques

It is possible to increase the size of the buttocks in two basic ways. On the one hand, using silicone prostheses that are implanted under the gluteus maximus muscle, inside this same buttock or above, using a hidden incision between both buttocks. The procedure can be performed under general or epidural anesthesia and usually requires an overnight hospital stay. Depending on the patient’s morphology and sex, round or anatomical prostheses can be used to provide the most natural result. Unlike breast prostheses, buttock prostheses have a much higher degree of cohesiveness in the silicone gel, but they also require routine check-ups to verify their integrity.

On the other hand, we have the possibility of using adipose tissue grafts to perform the augmentation. In this case, fat will be extracted from the areas that most benefit the patient’s silhouette and, once prepared, it will be injected later, specifically modeling the areas or depressions that alter the contours the most. It is evident that with this technique we benefit the whole body contour, not only the buttocks, and there is no need for long term revisions because there are no synthetic materials.

Risks and results

In the case of prostheses the risks are encapsulation, seromas or displacements of the prostheses, although they are less frequent than with breast prostheses. Regarding fat grafting, we only have to make sure that the tissue attachment is the best.

The number of gluteal prostheses used is very low compared to breast prostheses. On the other hand, the use of fat grafting has increased considerably in popularity. In any case, the results are very natural and stable over time.
