Why are breast implants being replaced?

Sometimes breast implants deteriorate, especially those used 15 or 20 years ago, which were of lower quality (or of good quality, but with a less resistant shell).

In case the implant breaks we can perform a delicate surgery to replace it. However, many times it is not enough to replace the implant with another one, but we have to add breast reshaping procedures to make the final appearance even better than when the patient came to our office.

Types of breast implant replacement

There is a particular case, that of PIP prostheses, which involves a different technique. Although in FEMM Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine we have never used this type of implant, we have replaced many of them in recent years.

What is done in these cases is to remove the prosthesis and the surrounding tissue to avoid possible problems associated with the use of this type of implants.

Breast implant explantation

We also have the case of patients who have already reached a certain age and prefer to stop wearing a breast implant. There are also solutions for them: from the simple removal of the implant to a surgery that associates a remodeling so that the breast is not very damaged in its shape after the explantation.

In this case we use lipotransfer or lipofilling techniques, that is to say, we remove fat from the areas where the patient has too much and we introduce it into the breast as a compensatory effect of the implant removal (in this way, in addition, the treated area is improved).

Lipofilling is a fairly new technique that gives us very good results in those patients who otherwise would not be completely satisfied. In the case of patients who want to have more volume, we repeat the procedure twice, achieving a highly satisfactory result.

From FEMM we like to insist that they should always put themselves in the hands of qualified and contrasted plastic surgeons. Although these procedures are not difficult to perform, they require precision and special care so that the result is as close as possible to what the patient desires.
