Losing weight after summer with the Essential Diet Method

From the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) it is calculated that, after returning from vacation, people can have gained between two and three kilos.

In many cases, once the summer ‘excesses’ are left behind (ice cream intake, increased alcohol consumption, etc.), the weight gained is easily and progressively lost, just by returning to the routine in one or two months. However, the older you get, the more difficult it is to lose it and the more you need to exercise and take care of your diet.

On the other hand, gaining 2 to 3 kilos every summer is a problem for those who have associated pathologies such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and obesity, as it can worsen the symptoms and increase the risk to their health.

How to lose the kilos gained during the vacations

The patient who has gained 2 or 3 kilos during the vacations, is quite likely to lose them easily when returning to the usual routine, but from 5 kg of added weight, he/she would have to follow a diet and exercise to lose them.

For these cases, the Essential Diet Method is especially indicated, as long as there are no contraindications, such as renal or hepatic insufficiency, active cancer, untreated hypothyroidism, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or patients under 16 years of age.

The Essential Diet Method consists of a combination of moderate exercise in ketosis and good exercise habits in the reintroduction of carbohydrates in the diet. This method of weight loss is more effective in men than in women, since men have a higher caloric intake than women; they have a body composition with greater muscle mass than women and this generates more energy expenditure. Therefore, when taking the same hypocaloric diet, the negative balance is greater in men and that is why they lose more weight.
