Did you know that there are anti-aging proteins?

It is well known that a proper diet, together with regular physical exercise, helps to keep us healthy and active during the aging period.

What not everyone knows is that there are certain proteins, specifically two, that help our body to age more slowly. The two proteins with anti-aging effects are:

  • BDNF protein
  • SIRT1 protein

Table of Contents

BDNF

The BDNF protein is produced in the brain and regulates the formation of new neurons throughout our life. This protein is also relevant in the long-term memory of people.

It has been shown that BDNF production in the body decreases as we age, so it may be related to cognitive losses.

There are some exercises, mainly aerobic, that help increase BDNF synthesis, among other functions, and may be responsible for cognitive improvements. In addition, they can also benefit the formation of new neurons.

In short, the regular practice of exercise slows down the aging of our brain, enhancing mental capacity.

SIRT1

This protein is produced inside our cells, helping us to regulate their internal balance. It is closely linked to longevity processes.

This protein has “anti-diabetic effects”, as it helps cells become more sensitive to insulin, helping to reduce type II diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic disease that deteriorates our body over time, as it affects the blood vessels, causing walking complications, vision difficulties and impairing kidney function.

On the other hand, SIRT1 regulates our metabolic expenditure when we do not eat. For this reason, it is also related to low-calorie diets, as well as the intermittent fasting diet, as it contributes to maintaining an optimal weight.

Intermittent fasting consists of skipping one of the three daily meals. But to perform it, it is important that the other two meals are copious in nutritious and healthy foods, such as, for example:

  • High-quality protein from chicken, beef or fish.
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Healthy fats such as olive oil

Finally, it is also important to reduce or eliminate the intake of milk and dairy products, as well as alcohol and sugar.
