What is mesotherapy?

Created in France more than 50 years ago, mesotherapy is now considered worldwide as one of the most effective non-surgical treatments to combat cellulite. But what does it consist of?

What is mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a therapeutic methodology that consists of administering small doses of medication through multiple intradermal injections.

The applications are made in the area to be treated. It consists of applying medications directly where the problem is, so it allows us to treat a multitude of conditions, among which the following stand out at an aesthetic level:

  • Cellulite: using substances that promote blood circulation, drainage, remodeling of fibrous tracts or those that regulate fat metabolism, we can adapt the treatment to each type of cellulite or to each moment of its evolution.
  • Sagging: in this case, we use substances such as organic silicon or DMAE to stimulate the formation of elastin and collagen fibers, which have a tightening effect.
  • Localized fat: we infiltrate substances that slow down fat metabolism and act on the destruction of fat cells.

Mesotherapy for weight loss?

It is important to emphasize that mesotherapy is not used to lose weight, you do not lose kilos with mesotherapy, this is a hoax that is often heard and it turns out to be radically false. In order to lose weight it is necessary to carry out a correctly planned and adequate diet for the patient, to affirm otherwise is to generate false expectations to the patient.

On the other hand, mesotherapy will help you to recover your silhouette, improve the appearance of the skin, facilitate a better blood circulation and correct the problems derived from it.

Injected mesotherapy

Each session follows standard steps:

  • Prior preparation: with the patient lying down, a careful disinfection of the area is performed. The application of local anesthetics is not necessary.
  • Treatment: cold anesthetic sprays can be used to further alleviate the discomfort of the puncture. Micro-injections are made every 1-2cm, covering the entire area to be treated.
  • Post treatment: it is important to keep the area disinfected. Creams or touching the area with the hand should be avoided until two hours after the treatment.

The treatment time in each session is relatively short, lasting a maximum of fifteen minutes. A minimum of twelve sessions are necessary, separated by a minimum of seven days, and it is always advisable, once the treatment is finished, to carry out reminder sessions.

Mesotherapy, results

The results are noticeable after the fifth or sixth session, depending on several factors. A reduction of localized fat is observed, the skin of the treated area is reaffirmed and cellulite or orange peel skin is reduced.

Another effect of mesotherapy is the reduction of fluid retention by improving blood circulation, avoiding in the warmer months, swelling and discomfort typical of this time of year.
