Plastic surgery in men is on the rise

This year, as usual, the number of men undergoing operations to improve their aesthetic image has increased again. According to data from the Spanish Society of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, the figures are once again up on the previous year. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years.

This change has occurred for several reasons:

  • Men’s concern for their body image has increased.
  • Cultural and social changes have led to a new mentality in men who are concerned about their physique, as they did not dare to have plastic surgery before.

What are the most common procedures men undergo?

  • Otoplasty or surgery of prominent ears: surely the reason is probably the fashion for current haircuts, since having so little hair makes the ears stand out much more.
  • Blepharoplasty or eye surgery: like women, men are very concerned about not looking tired eyes, skin bags on the eyelids, etc.. In their case, they even go to a specialist at a more advanced stage.
  • Liposuction: it is undoubtedly the main reason why men, and also women, come to Plastic Surgery clinics. The presence of localized fat is still the main concern.

However, men also come for treatments to correct wrinkles and other skin imperfections such as:

  • Facial hydration with vitamins: this treatment allows the skin to look more luminous and hydrated, thanks to facial redensification with vitamins.
  • Chemical peels: this is one of the most demanded treatments, especially in patients with acne and seborrhea problems.
  • Botulinum toxin: also known as Botox, it is widely used in men to smooth the forehead and eye line, as well as to control excessive sweating.
