IMO holds the 2nd edition of the International Retina Congress on June 7th and 8th

The Institute of Ocular Microsurgery (IMO) in Barcelona will hold the second edition of the International Retina Congress, Trends in Surgical & Medical Retina, on June 7 and 8, 2013 after the success of the last meeting, which was attended by more than 350 retina specialists from all over the world. IMO’s medical doctor, Borja Corcóstegui, is in charge of directing the current event, which will include numerous presentations and live surgeries by prestigious professionals from the world of ophthalmology.

This edition will include live surgeries, round tables and other debates on the latest treatments to combat retinal diseases, as well as the most important advances in the specialty in recent years (new surgical instruments and the development of robotic surgery). The organizers of the event expect to exceed the number of attendees gathered at the last edition in 2011. Among them, in addition to Dr. Corcóstegui, are IMO retina doctors Anniken Burés, José García-Arumí, Carlos Mateo, Rafael Navarro, Isabel Nieto and Cecilia Salinas, as well as retina specialist Alfredo Adán.

The congress will feature presentations by leading international professionals, such as doctors Stanley Chang, Francesco Bandello, Marco Zarbin, Kourous Rezaei, Arnd Gandorfer, Mark Blumenhranz, Francesco Boscia, Marco Mura, Yusuke Oshima, among others. Professor G. Guarnaccia, director of ESASO (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology) and lecturer at the June 2011 congress, will be participating again in the current edition.

Exclusive witnesses

Those interested in attending the event will be able to witness a live surgery module, which includes eight surgeries from four IMO operating rooms, to be performed in the IMO auditorium on June 7. This is a show that, according to the organizers, is of special interest to young ophthalmologists eager to learn from a celebrated team of retinologists.
