Premature ejaculation

What is premature ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is an orgasm disorder that occurs during sexual intercourse. It is characterized by the man ejaculating earlier than desired and against his will. In the most severe cases, the man may ejaculate before penetration or seconds after penetration.

What are the symptoms?

The main symptom is that the man ejaculates earlier than desired, i.e. prematurely. Anxiety is a symptom that affects people suffering from this disorder, as they feel the inability to adequately control ejaculation.

Causes of premature ejaculation or why it occurs

In most cases, the cause of premature ejaculation is psychological or emotional, due to anxiety, nervousness or guilt. It may also be due to physical problems, due to an anatomical or physiological disorder, such as a urogenital infection of the prostate.

What is the treatment?

Practice and relaxation are key in treating premature ejaculation. Treatment can be psychological or pharmacological.

There are several techniques or behavioral methods that can be very useful in treating this pathology.

  • Start and stop method. The man is sexually stimulated until he feels he is about to reach orgasm. Then the stimulation is suspended for approximately 30 seconds and started again. This is done until the man desires to ejaculate, which is when you continue the stimulation until the man reaches orgasm.
  • Squeezing method. It is similar to the previous one, but when the man feels he is about to ejaculate, he gently squeezes the end of the penis for several seconds; sexual stimulation is suspended for 30 seconds and then started again.
