Endoscopic Spine Surgery: Three Years of Great Results

Dr. Alberto Marqués, a specialist in traumatology, implements a pioneering and exclusive technique in the treatment of spinal pathologies. The results speak for themselves, 90% of patients endorse this technique.

What does it consist of?

Endoscopic spine surgery is a minimally invasive surgery that treats problems that produce compression in the space where the nerves are located and produce lumbar pain, such as canal stenosis and disc herniation.

Years ago, these types of problems were solved with aggressive open surgery, which produced long-term sequelae. This new technique respects all the stabilizing structures of the spine and achieves better results in a less aggressive manner. With minimally invasive surgery, there is no need to perform large dissections in order to access the spine, so the muscular structure is respected to the maximum. In addition, it is the best option for patients who are of advanced age and cannot be operated on by other techniques. Patients have already echoed the incredible results offered by this technique. Most of them come referred from previous patients who have been operated by Dr. Marqués. This means that the results are favorable and that, after the surgery, they recover the normality lost in their lives.

Here we can listen to the testimony of Odei Arrizabalaga, a rower from Orio and patient of Dr. Marqués who underwent endoscopic spine surgery to treat a herniated disc L5-S1:

Advantages of endoscopic spine surgery

  • Faster recovery with less pain
  • Better long-term results
  • Safe option for elderly patients
  • Smaller incision with minimal aggression to structures and tissues.
  • Infection rate lower than 0.5%.
  • Better appearance of the scar (does not exceed 2 centimeters).

In the words of Dr. Marqués himself….

With the experience of more than 350 patients treated in three years, we can already begin to draw conclusions. The results are spectacular. In most cases, patients are operated on for canal stenosis when they are over 60 years of age and older. We have even operated on a 95-year-old patient. Another of the most common pathologies we operate on is disc herniation, where we operate on patients under 60 years of age. We are solving the problems of elderly people who are referred to us because they could not be operated on due to the type of surgery that had to be performed. In endoscopic spine surgery, bleeding is minimal, we do not have to perform large dissections to access the patient’s spine and anesthesia is relatively short, which also allows for a faster recovery.
