Intralipotherapy, localized fat treatment

Intralipotherapy is a technique that treats localized fat by infiltrating a product called Aqualyx® without the need for surgery. Aqualyx® is an aqueous micro-gelatinous solution, deoxycholic acid, which breaks the adipocyte membrane and thus destroys the fat cells. It is a totally biocompatible substance, since it is present in the human organism, therefore it does not generate allergies of any kind. It is the latest innovation for the non-surgical treatment of localized fat.

Intralipotherapy treatment

Intralipotherapy is performed by means of injections of the Aqualix® solution inside the fatty tissue through a suitable, very fine and painless needle. It is injected radially, occupying the entire area to be treated. Generally, one vial is used for each 10 cm2 of skin surface, it is not advisable to exceed 5 or 6 vials per session.

Treatments should be performed at intervals of 2 or 3 weeks, depending on the surface of the area and the thickness of the adipose panniculus, 3 or 4 sessions are recommended. As it is a painless treatment, it does not require any type of anesthesia, neither topical nor infiltrated. Only at the time of infiltration may appear a small painful sensation that disappears within a few minutes. To avoid this slight discomfort, a small amount of local anesthetic is diluted in the Aqualyx® vial, thus minimizing the effects of the infiltration and making the treatment completely painless.

After the treatment the area may remain slightly erythematous, which will disappear in a few hours. There may be a slight edema that remains for a few days and a mild inflammatory process that is improving in 1 or 2 weeks, period of time to be expected to perform the second session. Occasionally a slight ecchymosis (purple) may appear, which is reabsorbed in a few days.

Care after treatment with Aqualix®.

  • It is advisable to apply a pressotherapy garment or compression stockings during the first days.
  • Do not massage the area after the infiltration, do not exercise during the first 24 hours and wait about two months after the last infiltration before associating with other treatments such as vibrating platforms, radiofrequency, etc.
  • The return to normal life is immediate since it does not require rest and the discomfort is minimal. If for any unforeseen event the treatment should be suspended, it does not cause any problem.
  • The results are progressive and begin to be visible from 2 or 3 weeks after the first session, the necessary waiting time to perform the progressive sessions.
  • Depending on the area to be treated and the amount of localized adiposity, more or less sessions will be needed, which will be evaluated at each visit.

Areas indicated for treatment

It is a treatment especially indicated to eliminate accumulations of localized fat that occur in the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees and arms and even double chin. It is important to know that in order to perform this technique we need the thickness of the adipose panniculus to be greater than 1.5 cn, so it is essential to previously perform an ultrasound study of the area to be treated.

Advantages of Intralipotherapy

One of the many advantages of intralipotherapy as a method in aesthetic medicine for the elimination of fat is that it does not require any type of surgery or operating room for its practice. Thus, the procedure is performed in the office of a professional accredited for these infiltration techniques, always taking care of the maximum aseptic conditions. In addition, the treatment is completely painless and the incorporation to our daily life and work is immediate. The treated adipocytes do not form again, so that once the treatment is finished, no maintenance treatment should be performed.
