Eyelid, bags and eye corner surgery: blepharoplasty

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a procedure performed on the eyelids and can be classified as upper and/or lower eyelid blepharoplasty, depending on the patient’s needs. Thanks to the Blepharoplasty technique, defects such as excess skin and excess fat deposits, small bags that accumulate and give the appearance of a tired and aged face, are corrected.

What does Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty consist of?

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on the lower eyelids. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is a simple technique that consists of a small incision inside the lower eyelid, this incision does not leave any visible signs. First, the eyeball is protected with contact lenses to make a small incision through which three fat pads are extracted, one internal, one middle and a third one that is more external.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is a short procedure, approximately 30 minutes, which can be performed on an outpatient basis. The postoperative period of Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty is short, being its main symptomatology a little swelling in the area and the appearance of some bruising or hematoma, with its complete resolution after 10-15 days.

The patient is able to return to daily life approximately 3-4 days after undergoing the blepharoplasty operation. The main postoperative indication is the use of sun protection, especially if there is any bruising.

It is also recommended to complement the postoperative period of Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty with some lymphatic drainage to help reduce swelling more quickly.

The result after a Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty procedure can be appreciated soon after the swelling has subsided, between the second and third week, giving an aspect of freshness and rejuvenation in the eyes.
