Oftalvist performs over 150 cataract surgeries in Kenya

Oftalvist, a Top Doctors center of excellence, has participated in a new humanitarian mission in Africa. For twelve days, three ophthalmologists, an optometrist and a nursing assistant operated on almost 200 people for cataracts and glaucoma in adults and strabismus and congenital cataracts in children.

This was reflected by Dr. José Luis Rodríguez Prats, Oftalvist ophthalmologist and member of Top Doctors, on his return from Kenya: “We are specialists in cataract correction using various techniques and cutting-edge technology which, together with the learning and experience of years, has been the key to the successful partial and total recovery of the vision of the patients we have treated”.

The work has had an investment of 135,000 € between the human team involved, logistics, medical supplies and surgical equipment. Taking advantage of the occasion, they have also contributed to teaching with the support of an African medical student in the operating room and in the consultation room.

This is not the first time that this prestigious ophthalmology center has been involved in cooperation missions; for years they have been helping to cure ocular pathologies in the Third World. During the month of October, the medical team of Oftalvist and the NGO ACCI (Association Against Blindness International) will visit Togo, where they will be helping for the eighth time. The aim of this mission will be to operate on 150 to 200 cataract patients.
