Therasuit Method: Intensive Pediatric Exercise Program

The Therasuit Method was invented in Russia, during the space age. In its beginnings, the objective of this suit was to avoid the negative effects suffered by astronauts during their space travels. These problems were muscular atrophy and osteoporosis caused by the lack of gravity. In 1997, the treatment began to be applied to North American children suffering from cerebral palsy and neuromotor disorders and later the suit was adapted and the current Therasuit was designed. Dr. Angel Marco Rived, pediatrician and member of Top Doctors, applies this therapy in his practice.

Therasuit Method

The program that incorporates the Therasuit is accompanied by a series of specific exercises designed for intensive strengthening of the body in children with cerebral palsy. The advantages it offers are the normalization of the muscle tone of the child’s body, the increase of active joint excursion, the increase of strength and endurance. It also offers greater control over muscle groups in order for children to improve their functional abilities and gain independence. Not only does it act on the muscular scope of the joints, but it also aids tactile and sensory stimulation and helps with vocalization and language fluency.

The project is structured in such a way that it enhances the growth and development of the disabled child’s body as if it were a non-disabled child. Its basis is based on the main guidelines of intensive therapy and strength development.

This procedure is focused on children with cerebral palsy, patients with: Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), cerebral contusions, spinal cord injuries and neuromuscular disorders.
