Osteopathy as a treatment for childhood asthma (I)

For a new and correct structure of our body to govern the function of our body, it takes a long time and a great number of generations. For this reason, osteopathy can improve our quality of life, even alleviating pathologies as severe as asthma.

Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system characterized by hyper-reactive airways, i.e., there is an increase in the bronchoconstrictive response of the bronchial tree. This pathology is conditioned by the intermittent narrowing of the bronchi produced by the effect of a spasm of their smooth muscles and an obstruction of bronchial secretions.

Asthma in children

Asthma is the most common respiratory disease in children. Suffering a large number of respiratory tract infections during the first year of life is a risk factor for acquiring asthma between 6 and 8 years of age; as well as the permanent exposure of the child to mites, pollens, fungi, animals, pollutants or tobacco smoke producing a bronchospasm response with dyspnea and dilated thorax.

Another important fact is that children born by cesarean section show a delay in the colonization of the intestinal flora. This situation is a risk factor for atopic asthma, as well as the development of gastrointestinal tract pathologies such as gastroesophageal reflux.
