Facial Laser Resurfacing

Laser treatment is the fastest, most effective and safest method for renewed and even skin.

Pigmented spots, spider veins, acne scars and open pores are unsightly lesions of our skin that have a quick and effective solution: the laser. But not just any laser is suitable for everything. Thus, Dr. Adriana Ribé, laser expert and Director of Ribe Clinic, advises us which laser is the most appropriate for each case: “A good laser in expert hands, will provide effective and lasting solutions quickly and virtually painless,” she says.

A laser for each skin lesion:

Solar lentigines: Solar lentigines, also known as age spots, are those spots that appear in areas exposed to the sun and have a round shape with irregular margins. Its origin is related to age or excessive exposure to the sun’s rays. Dr. Adriana Ribé uses the Variable Pulse Alexandrite laser or Q-switched to eliminate, in a single session, this type of spots. “The laser light destroys the cells with excess pigment without damaging the surrounding tissue,” explains Dr. Ribé, “and so it is completely eliminated”.
After the laser session, a scab of the same size as the spot will remain. It disappears in about 5-10 days.

Spider veins, telangiectasias of the face (couperosis) or varicose veins of the legs: These are dilations of small veins of the face or body (legs, very often) that may have ramifications. They are treated with the vascular Nd-YAG laser, in 1-4 sessions depending on the size, depth of the lesion and type of skin.

Ruby spots: The red spots, which usually appear mainly on the neckline and back, are called ruby spots. They are capillary angiomas, in most cases hereditary. These lesions, once they have appeared, if not treated, not only will not disappear, but can grow and eventually reproduce. To eliminate the ruby spots, Dr. Adriana Ribé applies a vascular Nd-YAG laser whose light eliminates them in a single session. After treatment, the spot remains a slightly darker color and is reabsorbed by the body without forming a crust.

Acne and surgical scars: To treat scars, whether acne, surgical or traumatic, I use a non-ablative fractional laser and in about 5 sessions (1 session every 30 days) a very noticeable improvement is achieved (reduction of up to 80%). This is achieved by remodeling old collagen (poorly formed in the case of keloid scars) and inducing the formation of new, higher quality collagen.

Stretch marks: Stretch marks are whitish or reddish skin lines that are mainly located on the abdomen, thighs and chest. They are “scars” of the skin with a “broken” appearance. Histologically, there is atrophy of the epidermis with fibrosis of the dermis and rupture of the elastic and collagen fibers. They appear in various circumstances, the main causes being pregnancy, puberty and rapid weight gain. They can also be associated with prolonged consumption of certain drugs such as corticosteroids.

It is very important to prevent the appearance of stretch marks. Creams are used to maintain and increase the elasticity of the skin applied from the beginning of the triggering process that usually contain elastin, placenta extracts, amniotic fluid, plant extracts such as quisetum (horsetail), algae, etc. through massages that stimulate skin circulation.

When the stretch marks are already formed the results will be better in the vascularized phase (when the stretch mark is red) than in the scar phase (when the stretch mark is white). In my experience, we are achieving very satisfactory results, which meet patients’ expectations, with laser, both in red and white stretch marks. I use a non-ablative fractional laser and in about 5 sessions (1 session every 30 days) a very noticeable improvement is achieved (reduction of up to 80%) consisting of: reduction in the size of the stretch mark (shorter and narrower) and a tone and texture more similar to normal skin (the red color disappears and/or atrophy is improved in white stretch marks). Thus, the stretch mark looks very much like normal skin and is hardly noticeable.
And we must not forget the important role of the non-ablative fractional laser in cases of mild-moderate aging and the fractional CO2 laser in cases of severe aging.

We are activating our skin cells to manufacture their own collagen and elastic fibers and we are also renewing the outer layer of the skin. Thus, we are really “rejuvenating from the inside” and in a natural way which is the current trend.
