Top 6 questions about hair transplantation

For many patients, hair transplantation is an important and worrying decision when considering whether to opt for one procedure or another and where to have it performed. That is why Dr. Benarroch answers the most frequently asked questions that come to mind.

Is a hair transplant painful?

Hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgery which, performed in the operating room by an expert surgeon, is a painless procedure since the patient is sedated and anesthetized, so anxiety and discomfort disappear.

For example, in our FUE Hair Transplant, the patient is asleep under local anesthesia and sedation before the scalp is anesthetized, so he/she will not feel any discomfort until the effects of both pass, once the procedure is finished. Postoperative care is very simple and painless.

Does hair transplant leave scars?

With our FUE – FUEI Hair Transplant procedure, absolutely natural results are obtained, unnoticeable to others; not only that, but we can hide scars on the scalp from accidents or other Transplants performed with old Techniques such as FUT (which used to leave large scars on the back of the scalp).

These scars appeared because of the type of Technique: a process of extracting a strip of tissue from the scalp which was then prepared and cut into smaller follicles that would later be transplanted. At the time a strip of tissue is removed, there may be a large scar on the back of the head.

However, the FUE Technique leaves no scarring as the follicles are extracted individually using a specialized extraction tool.

Recovery time after hair transplantation

As with many surgical procedures, after a hair transplant you will need a few days to recover. Our advice is to take between 7 and 14 days off work (depending on the size of the procedure performed and the individual characteristics of the patient).

Who can undergo a hair transplant?

To be a suitable candidate for a successful hair transplant it is necessary to have sufficient donor area, i.e. sufficient hair on the back of the scalp, which is the hair that will be transplanted to the bald or recipient areas of the head.

For those who have extremely thin hair and do not have enough hair in the donor area, we offer other treatments for Hair Reconstruction.

Is the transplanted hair permanent?

Currently, hair transplantation is the most permanent hair reconstruction solution available.

All of our hair transplants are carefully studied. We use donor hair from the back of the scalp or safety zone; once transplanted these follicles will continue to grow as they would in the back of the scalp. This hair from the safety zone, hair genetically programmed not to fall out and remain permanently on your scalp, now its pattern of loss will continue that of the non-transplanted follicles, therefore you should keep the donor area to be able to have another transplant in the future if needed and depending on your age and individual characteristics.

Is hair transplantation out of my reach?

The cost of a hair transplant is often associated with the rich, celebrities and soccer players, but this is a mistake; nowadays a hair transplant is within the reach of anyone.

It must be taken into account that the price of a hair transplant is unique, while other treatments such as medications and shampoos are items that will always have to be purchased, so the cost can increase significantly.
