Rhinoplasty, the star treatment in cosmetic surgery

Rhinoplasty is nowadays one of the star treatments in cosmetic surgery. The nose is one of the most important parts as it is located in the center of the face. Rhinoplasty can be performed for two reasons: functional, also called septorhinoplasty, and aesthetic. Prior to surgery, the Plastic Surgery expert must plan and establish the shape of the nose that best suits the facial harmony.

Differences between rhinoplasty and rhinomodelation

Rhinoplasty is the surgery in charge of improving the aesthetic and functional aspect of the nose while rhinomodeling is the minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure to improve nasal aesthetics without influencing functionality. Another difference is the effect of an intervention such as postoperative pain or discomfort.

Despite the advantages that rhinomolding offers by not subjecting the patient to surgery, this practice cannot be used in all aesthetic cases. This is because it is only performed to modify the nose minimally and for reasons of enlargement, not reduction. It is also not feasible when it is required to alter the bony part or after a cancerous process or accident.

Rhinoplasty technique

Nowadays, except in exceptional cases, the best rhinoplasty technique is the โ€œopenโ€ one. Through a minimal incision in the columella, the lower part that divides the nose into two orifices, we can visualize all the nasal structures allowing a more precise and meticulous surgery to obtain a more natural result.

Advantages of open rhinoplasty

The open approach facilitates the most precise work on such a delicate structure as the nose, respecting the structures that should not be manipulated and acting on those that must be corrected with millimetric precision. The result is much more natural, and more importantly, stable over time.

Rhinoplasty: postoperative period

The postoperative period of rhinoplasty is not painful at all. The swelling and minimal bruising that may appear last a week. From that moment on patients can lead a normal life with certain restrictions, mainly of intense physical activity, during the first month.
