Therapeutic apheresis is an extracorporeal circulation procedure in which blood is filtered with a device that retains pathogenic or pathological harmful substances specific to that type of filter.
Therapeutic apheresis is applied today in many high-level hospitals, and was developed in Japan 25 years ago. It is used almost exclusively for cases of autoimmune diseases that do not respond well to any other treatment, reducing somewhat the patient’s symptomatology.
What does therapeutic apheresis consist of?
First of all, a line is channeled into each arm, so that the blood circulates through a sterile, single-use circuit which, in turn, will be coupled to a machine that filters the plasma cells.
These cells immediately return to the patient’s bloodstream, via the contralateral arm. For its part, the plasma continues to move through the circuit until it reaches a filter that is capable of filtering out all the immunocomplexes. For example, in autoimmune diseases the inflammatory cytokines that cause much of the patient’s symptoms, as well as excess cholesterol, harmful proteins, heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, aluminum), chemicals (glyphosate, DDT, Bisphenol A, pesticides) and all mycotoxins (Aflatoxione A, Ochratoxin and mycophenolic acid).

Therapeutic apheresis is applied in the treatment of any pathology, although there are some that especially benefit from this technique.

For the preparation no special indications are required from the patient, except for having had a hearty breakfast or meal and drinking at least 2 liters of water before the procedure. We previously perform a blood test to know the necessary parameters to protocolize each procedure in an individual and personalized way.
The first session lasts about 90 minutes. It is a painless procedure, in which the patient is monitored and controlled by our team, while watching a movie, listening to music with headphones or having a friendly conversation.
The following day, a session of body hyperthermia is performed, a medical procedure that increases the body temperature to about 38 degrees for about 30 to 45 minutes. In turn, he administers a toxin-mobilizing serum and, in this way, manages to remove all harmful substances from the blood.
In the following 48 hours, there will be a massive migration of all harmful substances from inside the cells and tissues into the blood. Thus, on the third day, a new therapeutic apheresis session is performed with a duration of about 120 minutes.
Recovery is immediate, since what we actually do is to remove all the toxic load circulating in the patient. All patients report that they experience improvement, some immediately and others progressively.
