The Power of Meditation

The reality that we live day by day is subject to constant change and evolution. Tasks are constantly increasing and our head reaches a point where it says enough is enough! That is when we enter a state of physical and mental overwhelm, as well as stress, which is difficult to channel.

The problem lies in the fact that we focus our daily routine wrongly. Here are some examples:

  • Pretending to do too many things in too little time.
  • Running from one place to another to get everywhere on time.
  • Doing one task while thinking about another.
  • Getting stressed thinking about everything you have to do when you leave work.
  • Constantly checking the messages and emails we receive.

All this should not worry us because we live in a technological age and many computers make our daily tasks much easier. With this, we manage to save mental energy and have a more comfortable life. Science and medical advances have achieved several milestones in recent decades, for example, cancer could not be cured before and now it is at least possible to extend the patient’s life.

And this has only just begun. Society is advancing at breakneck speed:

  • New scientific findings are discovered every week.
  • Software upgrades are designed.
  • More complex systems are developed.

However, this causes our brain to become saturated with so much information, which it has to integrate and process, constantly updating its models of interpretation of reality.

On the other hand, we lead a frenetic pace of life that also affects us negatively:

  • We work long hours.
  • We try to learn everything that happens in the world.
  • We try to make the most of the resources that exist, in terms of training, customer growth, etc.
  • We take meticulous care of our personal relationships.

However, no matter how hard we try, it is obvious that we cannot do everything. We tend to focus on our personal and professional obligations, to the detriment of ourselves. In the end we always reach a point where our mind demands our attention, as we are neither superheroes nor infallible.

It often happens that we exceed our responsibilities by going to work until the last month of pregnancy or we work despite having the flu. All these signals that our body sends us should not be ignored, as they could turn into pathological situations.

How to find the balance?

Undoubtedly, one of the best known and most effective techniques is meditation. Coming from the oriental culture, it has been popularized in the last decades to become one of the best methods to recover the lost balance that our mind needs so much.

There are different types of meditation:

  • Mindfulness meditation.
  • Compassion meditation.
  • Kindness meditation.
  • Concentration meditation.
  • Simple awareness meditation.

Beyond the type of meditation you decide to do, it is important to keep in mind that it involves observing and observing oneself, impartially, without judging. In this way we get to know ourselves better, both physically and mentally.

Meditation contributes to improve our emotional stability, as well as our psychophysical well-being. It is important to learn to be compassionate with ourselves, but also with others. Also, we must know how to see when our mind oppresses us with negative thoughts that distract us from the task at hand. The more we are aware of these limitations, the more we will be able to overcome them.

Science has shown on several occasions that the practice of meditation helps to maintain an optimal emotional balance. This is also reflected in our immune system, our health and our cognitive abilities.

Not knowing how to meditate is not important, since like so many other things, it can only be learned through practice. With time it will become something simple and natural. The only requirement is the desire to be more at ease with others and with yourself. Namaste!
