Treatment of couperose and spider veins

Couperose and spider veins are very superficial red capillary formations that usually appear on the face and décolleté. The former are multiple and the latter are single and spider-like. Both arise due to outbreak congestion of the skin in these areas. This is caused by genetic causes or by sudden changes in environmental temperature.

Angiomas are congenital malformations of variable size that appear in any area of the skin, at or shortly after birth.

Treatment

We can attenuate congestion and facial erythema by topical treatments with vasoconstrictive creams. One of the latest advances is Mirvaso cream, which will be marketed soon and promises very noticeable results in this area. Also, avoiding overheating of the facial skin can be helpful prophylactically.

Couperose and spider veins can be eliminated with Neodymium-Yag Vascular Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Laser technology is currently the most advantageous option, as it allows selective coagulation of dilated capillaries without damaging the skin.

The laser treatment lasts only a few minutes and once finished, the patient can put on make-up and return to his or her daily activities immediately. In general, optimal results are obtained in one or two treatment sessions. If couperose is also associated with the presence of small pimples, it is called rosacea and in this case it will also require an associated medical treatment.
