Laser removal of pigmented lesions

What is pigmented lesion laser removal?

Pigmented lesions are marks that appear on the skin and have a different color from the rest of the body. Among the factors that lead to the appearance of spots that form over time on arms, hands, cleavage or face is especially important exposure to ultraviolet rays, both solar and artificial tanning lamps. Pigmented lesions are common and most of them are benign, but aesthetically they can be unpleasant for some people. These include keratoses, moles, age spots, freckles, sun spots and melasma.

Nowadays it is possible to erase most spots. In addition to conventional treatments (peelings or creams), there are lasers or pulsed light techniques, which apply intense radiation to the spots to eliminate them. No anesthesia or special care is required.

Why is it performed?

Many people come to the dermatology office because they have or see spots appearing over time on their skin, and many wish to determine whether they are serious or not, or to eliminate them. The objective of the patients is to erase these pigmented lesions in order to have a complexion or skin with fewer imperfections and, incidentally, to have a rejuvenated complexion.

What does it consist of?

The laser for pigmented lesions consists of applying a very intense but short burst of radiation. The laser hits the skin and causes the pigment-containing sacs (melanosomes) to rupture. In this way the spots are effectively eliminated, being a safe treatment.
