What is blood in the semen?

Blood in the semen is also known as hemastospermia. It can occur in such a small amount that it cannot be seen with the naked eye, only with a microscope, or it can be seen perfectly in the ejaculate.

What are the symptoms of blood in the semen?

The symptomatology of hemastospermia or blood in the semen varies depending on the cause that provokes it, but some of the most common symptoms are:

  • Bleeding during urination
  • Painful ejaculation
  • Painful bowel movements and painful urination
  • Low back pain
  • Fever and chills
  • Swelling and tenderness in the scrotum and groin area

Causes of blood in the semen

In order to treat hemastospermia or blood in the semen, it is essential to treat the cause of the hemastospermia. In some cases the pathology will last a few days or weeks. To improve the symptoms it is good to take painkillers, drink plenty of fluids and eat foods rich in fiber.
