What is a phonatory prosthesis?

A phonatory prosthesis is a type of instrument used during the surgical removal of the larynx, which provides a voice with a high communication capacity, without any metallic effect or reverberation and recovers a tone very similar to the natural one.

What is it used for?

The phonatory prosthesis is used to replace the vocal cords that have been removed by those who have undergone larynx removal surgery. This makes it possible to recover life before the operation and eliminates the social stigma that can be generated.

Care after the operation

It is important to take daily hygienic care after the operation. In addition, the prosthesis must be replaced every six to twelve months, depending on its condition. This process does not require any type of additional operation, as it can be done on an outpatient basis in the office.
