Nutrigenetic Analysis

What is nutrigenetic analysis?

Nutrigenetic analysis or nutrigenetic test is a test that studies the DNA to know the genetic predisposition to suffer from diet-related diseases. In addition, it also helps to find a more appropriate, healthy and effective diet for the patient and to know the foods that suit him/her best. Likewise, this test seeks to benefit the patient, not only by finding the most suitable foods for his or her body, but also to acquire eating habits that are more suitable for his or her genetic profile.

What does it consist of?

This test studies the DNA by means of a saliva analysis to observe and identify the patient’s genetic variables. Thanks to this test it is possible to know more than 40 genes related to obesity, so if a person has most of these markers it is possible that, if he/she does not follow a certain diet, he/she will suffer from obesity.

This test is performed to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Why is it performed?

This test is performed to prevent cardiovascular diseases and is recommended in patients who suffer from one or more of these circumstances:

  • Obesity
  • Follow-up of different diets without results
  • Family history of overweight or obesity.
  • Patients with a history of type 2 diabetes
  • Patients with suspicion of suffering type 2 diabetes associated with overweight It is also recommended because if the patient suffers from cardiovascular disease, acceptance of the disease is better, there is better adherence to diet and exercise, which means a more effective and less costly treatment.

What does the nutrigenetic report say?

The nutrigenetic analysis report consists of about 40-50 pages showing the results of the test and the pathologies studied, as well as a personalized diet and the type of food the patient should follow. The predispositions studied in the test are:

  • Deficits and intolerances that predispose to osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency, Folic Acid alterations and Lactose Intolerance.
  • Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol…
  • Effect of different diets on the patient’s organism.

Meaning of abnormal results

The results of the nutrigenetic analysis will give information about the predisposition of each individual to suffer from certain diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, or also to know the effects of food on the organism.

Once the results have been obtained, a report is made and interpreted by a specialist in a nutrigenetic context and taking into account the patient’s lifestyle. Finally, all this information is organized to give the patient personalized recommendations and establish treatment strategies that have the common goal of improving the patient’s health and preventing disease.
