Buttock Augmentation

What is buttock augmentation?

There are often people who are dissatisfied with the way their body looks. One of the aspects that has generated more interest in recent times is the buttocks. Excess or loss of volume, inadequate fat distribution and flaccidity cause an effect that destroys the aesthetic appearance that this part of the body once caused. However, in order to correct it, there are surgical procedures that achieve an increase in the volume of the buttocks, called gluteal augmentation or gluteoplasty.

Why are buttock augmentations performed?

Flaccidity, depressions or cellulite generate an unaesthetic appearance of the buttocks. In fact, there are cases of patients who complain that these depressions or disproportions are even noticeable with clothes on.

A buttock augmentation allows reshaping the buttock area, reducing fat in the area, improving its contour and appearance, rejuvenating the tissues and increasing the volume of the desired area.

However, the results obtained will depend on the area or option to be improved, that is, if you prefer to increase the size or projection of the buttocks or if you decide to reshape the area. It is also worth making a distinction between a male and female augmentation, since the procedure is different in order to try to maintain the characteristics of each one.

What does buttock augmentation consist of?

First of all, in order to achieve an enhanced buttock, the patient must be clear about his or her expectations. Thus, after a thorough review of the patient’s buttocks, the surgeon will advise on the various possibilities to address the aforementioned increase.

Thus, there are several ways to augment the buttocks. However, it should be clear that there is no treatment to increase them that does not require surgery, although there are aesthetic medicine treatments that can improve the contour or texture of the skin such as radiofrequency.

The operation as such has an approximate duration of ninety minutes. There are different ways to perform a buttock augmentation operation: by means of prosthesis and implants, by using the patient’s own fat and with hyaluronic acid.

  • Buttock augmentation through prostheses and implants: it is possible to increase the volume of buttocks that are not very prominent through the inclusion of implants by intramuscular technique. An incision of less than eight centimeters is made that reaches the gluteus maximus, inserting the prosthesis and leaving the scar hidden between both buttocks. Cohesive silicone gel implants are used for buttock augmentation.
  • Buttock augmentation by lipotransfer: if implants or prostheses are not desired, a completely natural result can be obtained using the patient’s own fat while reshaping the figure through liposuction. Fat is usually taken from the hips, abdomen, back or thighs. This technique is especially recommended for patients who have suffered considerable weight loss, with flattening and sagging of the skin.
  • Buttock augmentation with hyaluronic acid: this technique consists of injections of hyaluronic acid in the buttocks area, with which a moderate increase in size is obtained. It is performed under local anesthesia and its results are temporary.

Preparation for a buttock augmentation

Like any surgery, a buttock augmentation requires a preoperative preparation. An exhaustive exploration of the buttocks should be performed, checking key factors such as height, width, projection of the buttocks, whether the patient exercises or not, his physiognomy, whether he is a man or a woman… Once this study has been performed, one or another technique can be chosen, depending on the convenience of each one.

Care after buttock augmentation

A series of rules must be followed so that the scar remains stable and the prosthesis does not move or cause asymmetries.

  • The first two days are spent in the clinic, face down.
  • Once both days have passed, it will be possible to get up, but you should not be seated for longer than necessary.
  • You should sleep on your stomach for at least two weeks.
  • Avoid physical exercise involving the buttock for at least five to six weeks.
