cheiloplasty

What is cheiloplasty?

Cheiloplasty, also called lip surgery, is a corrective action that allows to reshape the shape of the lips or give them structure or volume. It is a non-invasive procedure thanks to the current tools of aesthetic medicine, such as hyaluronic acid fillers, liposculpture and lip fillers.

Why is it performed?

Given the importance of the lips in facial aesthetics, the absence of shape or volume in female and male subjects can create insecurity or discomfort in people. Cheiloplasty therefore allows to increase the width or volume of the upper or lower lip, modify its shape and eliminate possible imperfections also caused by the passage of time.

What does it consist of?

Cheiloplasty can be augmentation, in the case of thin lips. This means increasing the width of the exposed red skin of the lip (vermilion) in comparison with the light skin of the skin or highlighting the lip ridge. It is performed with filler substances, such as those based on hyaluronic acid, or by grafting one’s own lip tissue (liposculpture) or fat grafting (lipofilling).

Preparation for cheiloplasty

Cheiloplasty is a non-invasive treatment that only requires local anesthesia. The duration of the procedure is approximately one hour.

Aftercare after the procedure

In the postoperative period, the appearance of swelling in the lips is variable and unpredictable in nature, but can be controlled by local application of ice in the first postoperative hours. Stitch removal is performed seven days after the date of surgery.
