What are upper lip wrinkles?

Upper lip wrinkles, also called barcode or peribuccal wrinkles, are the vertical creases that appear at the top of the mouth. They appear in the form of lines running from top to bottom.

What are the causes of upper lip wrinkles?

In most cases they are wrinkles that arise as a result of certain gestures (kissing, blowing, smoking, whistling or talking). However, sometimes it may be due to certain dental problems or loss of tone of the lip vermilion.

There are several tips to prevent the appearance of upper lip wrinkles:

  • Exercises with the mouth
  • Do not press on the lips
  • Essential oils
  • Masks
  • Creams
  • Food rich in alfalfa, avocado, carrots, sesame, guava, lemon and tomatoes.

What is the treatment of wrinkles on the upper lip?

There are several treatments to eliminate wrinkles on the upper lip:

  • Botulinum toxin (Botox): it is applied using a syringe and a very fine needle. The product paralyzes and relaxes the muscles and prevents them from tightening.
  • Hyaluronic acid: it makes the skin of the upper lip appear smooth and without furrows, and the lip border recovers the lost definition.
  • Laser: The Yag Laser consists of applying pulses of energy to the area to be treated under anesthesia. These pulses vaporize the first layer of the skin and thus eliminate wrinkles in a single session.
  • Facial massages: used for people who do not want to undergo surgical treatment, although the results are obtained in the long term and are not as effective as those of the previous treatments. It consists of massaging the area by applying a cream with a lifting effect for 15 minutes every day.
