Aesthetic Physiotherapy after Lifting

The facelift is a cosmetic surgery operation whose purpose is the disappearance or attenuation of wrinkles that appear on the face. The intervention consists of making a series of incisions behind the ear and scalp, then stretching the skin of the face until no wrinkles are observed, and finally proceeding to suture in the place where the incisions were previously made.

What is the protocol to follow after undergoing a facelift?

After the cosmetic surgery intervention, the patient must go to the clinic every two days to undergo the cures of the professionals. One week after the intervention, the patient will be in contact with the physiotherapist. It is common for the patient not to feel immediately satisfied and to express rejection when observing that, after the intervention, the expected effects are not immediate. This is where the fundamental role of the physiotherapist comes into play, who in addition to applying his or her techniques, will provide fundamental psychological support in the patient’s rehabilitation.

After palpation of the lymph nodes, a saturation of fluid is perceived in them. The technique to be used is to press the lymph nodes, which are like sponges that absorb the liquid.

Once the edema has been localized, the technique of local reabsorption is used, taking into account:

  • The direction: the edema should be directed towards the lymph nodes, so that they absorb it.
  • The pressure: it has to be the right and adequate.

The session will end with a new pressure on the lymph nodes. Once the technique has been performed, an attenuation of the edema can already be seen. To obtain an optimal result it is advisable to undergo two or three sessions per week, prolonging the treatment between six and ten sessions.
