Top Doctors organizes a workshop on male fertility

More than 60 Russian andrologists came to Madrid to attend this workshop given by the experts of the Fundació Puigvert and the Institute of Sexual Medicine of Madrid, under the organization of Top Doctors. The most prestigious specialists of our country attended the meeting to share their latest research with the Russian professionals.

On November 13th at the Hospital Universitario Madrid Sanchinarro, the first workshop on Male Fertility was held for a delegation of Russian andrologists, invited by Top Doctors. The workshop was given by andrologists from the Fundació Puigvert, a prestigious clinic in our country specialized in urology and andrology, and specialists from the Institute of Sexual Medicine of Madrid, a pioneering center in male genito-urinary surgery and sexual health. One of the conclusions drawn was the great progress currently being made in the field of andrology, which indicates that “there is a growing male infertility and various diagnostic techniques and treatments that were ignored until recently”, according to Dr. Eduard Ruiz Castañé of the Fundació Puigvert.

Doctors Ruíz Castané and Sarquella of the Fundació Puigvert shared in the workshop the reasons for male infertility. “In more than 50% of the infertile couples evaluated, there is a deficient male reproductive capacity” explained the experts. Thus, as they explained, the objectives must include: identifying potentially correctable alterations, detecting irreversible alterations (in which assisted reproduction techniques can be applied using the couple’s spermatozoa), revealing transmissible genetic abnormalities, diagnosing pathologies relevant to the patient and providing him with alternatives in the event that he cannot use his own gametes. Doctors Fernández Arjona and Rosselló, of the Institute of Sexual Medicine, emphasized the importance of studying the couple as a whole, not just the individual. In addition, “it is essential that it be studied by a multidisciplinary medical team that covers the organic and also the psycho-emotional aspects,” they both remarked.

Visiting the andrologist

Another important message that was presented during the workshop was the importance of promoting and raising awareness in society to ensure that men go to an andrologist from puberty, just as women are made aware of the importance of going to the gynecologist and having regular check-ups from a young age.
