The Institut de la Màcula celebrates World Sight Day

On the occasion of World Sight Day, the Institut de la Màcula, a center of medical excellence and member of Top Doctors, has launched an awareness and early detection campaign to combat age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The aim of the “Live to See” campaign, which will run until the end of the year, is to highlight the importance of early detection in the fight against degenerative vision diseases that cause blindness. Most of these diseases have no visible symptoms until it is too late. For this reason, during the months of the campaign early detection tests will be carried out free of charge at the headquarters of the Institut de la Màcula at the Teknon Medical Centre to detect possible cases of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Dr. Jordi Monés, Director of the Institut de la Màcula and ophthalmologist specializing in macula, retina and vitreous states that this early diagnosis is essential. “When a disease has an effective treatment, what we must do is catch it in time to slow down its progression,” says Dr. Monés.

Despite the advances that have been made, AMD remains a complicated disease. Dr. Monés assures that “thanks to advances, we are now able to face the disease, but the important thing is to diagnose it in time, before it is too late.

Early detection is very important, but it is also necessary to lead a healthy life: take care of your eyes, do not smoke, follow a healthy diet, play sports and maintain a healthy weight.
