The most dangerous christmas candies for your teeth

Christmas is coming to homes and along with it the tastiest sweets of the year, products that should be consumed in moderation, otherwise dental health can be affected. Below, Dr. Juan José Alió, member of Top Doctors, has drawn up a list of the eight most harmful sweets for teeth.

Eight sweets that can make your Christmas bitter

  1. Candied fruit: its high sugar content (81 grams per 100 grams) in addition to its high caloric content, makes this candy a dangerous enemy for teeth. And even more so if its sticky texture becomes encrusted between the teeth. This makes it necessary to maintain proper dental hygiene and if this is not done, the risk of caries increases.
  2. Guirlache: it is the candy in solid state that is combined with almonds. Its hardness and high sugar content (51.3 grams per 100 grams) can break some of the teeth.
  3. Chocolate a la taza: although its sugar content exceeds that of nougat (73.8 grams per 100 grams), its remains are easier to remove due to the liquid state of the candy. You only need to rinse your teeth properly after brushing.
  4. Marzipan: this candy has 49 grams per 100 grams and, like candied fruit, its viscous texture sticks to the teeth and makes it difficult to remove the remains embedded in the teeth. To remove these remains, it is advisable to use dental floss for the gaps between the teeth, in addition to cleaning with a toothbrush.
  5. Hard nougat: the hardness of nougat can damage some teeth. This product has 45.1 grams of sugar per 100 grams.
  6. Soft nougat: to eliminate its most difficult remains, it will be necessary to use silk and rinsing to achieve its complete elimination. In addition, this product has 25 grams of sugar per 100 grams.
  7. Mantecados and polvorones: it has 25 grams per 100 grams. Their sugar content and calories are similar, containing more than 500 calories per 100 grams of product.
  8. Roscón: the big problem with this product is the candy that decorates it. The candied fruit sticks to the teeth, the sugar gets between the teeth and the almonds stick to the gums. Finally, the surprise of the roscón can be unpleasant if you don’t realize that you have been touched. It has 24 grams of sugar per 100 grams.
