Confocal endomicroscopy is able to remove the prostate without altering sexual functions

As every November, mustaches fill the streets of different cities around the world as a sign of the #movember solidarity movement, which seeks to raise awareness among men of the need to get involved in their own health issues, as well as support programs aimed at achieving a happier, healthier and longer life.

TibHealth.com® (tibhealth.com), an online platform to find and contact the best medical specialists in private healthcare, audited and certified by the most rigorous selection process of doctors in the world, wanted to join this movement. According to their data, even today 17% of men never go to the doctor or only do so when they have no other choice. Only 31% of them claim to have regular medical check-ups and 4 out of 10 do not include prostate check-ups, despite the fact that prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer in men worldwide and the one that causes the most deaths in our country.

Erection is possible after prostate cancer with “confocal endomicroscopy”, a new technique developed by Spanish doctors.

As with women with other types of cancer, men with prostate or testicular cancer go through difficult moments before, during and after treatment. However, thanks to technological advances, the quality of life improves day by day. One example is the latest technique developed by the doctors of the Puigvert Foundation, a non-profit hospital entity that provides comprehensive assistance in Urology, Nephrology, Andrology and Reproduction.

The center has developed a technique that guarantees sexual function after prostate removal. “Confocal endomicroscopy is a pioneering microscopic laser in prostate cancer surgery that allows a 120x magnification of the tissue, improving the precision of the surgical process, facilitating the vision of each of the cells and thus preventing sexual functions from being disabled,” says Alberto Breda, head of the oncological urology team at the Puigvert Foundation.

The Foundation has also developed different pioneering techniques for other types of pathologies, such as bladder cancer, with which, through endoscopic surgery, it is possible to remove the tumor in its entirety so that it can be analyzed in its entirety. For all these reasons, the Puigvert Foundation is already an international reference center, with scientific prestige and highly trained and qualified in its specialties.
