What tests should we perform when starting a new sport

When a person starts a new sport, there are a series of tests that should be performed beforehand.

The tests that we usually recommend are, at least, the following:

  • An electrocardiogram
  • A Doppler echocardiogram
  • A stress test

In this way, a complete study can be carried out, with the aim of ruling out silent cardiopathies.

What risks does our heart face when practicing sports?

Depending on the activity and the intensity of the practice, our heart may be subjected to risks, especially in those cases in which there is a previously undetected major heart disease, in which severe complications such as arrhythmias and sudden death may occur.

What advice can we follow to practice sport in a healthy way?

In order to practice sports in a healthy way, we recommend a complete prior cardiological evaluation, as well as to start practicing sports progressively and gradually.

On the other hand, it is also important to maintain a balanced and cardio-healthy diet to keep cholesterol low, as well as to rest adequately.

How many check-ups will we need to enjoy sport without worries?

From the age of 40 onwards, we usually recommend an annual check-up, which would include a stress test, as well as a blood test with cholesterol measurement.
