The hidden face of sport: sacrifice and effort

Sport is health, the perfect complement to life habits. We have all practiced sport at some time and we all know its advantages. Not only can we improve our performance and extend our endurance, but we can also improve our limits and the performance of our organ and musculoskeletal systems.

However, in competitive sport things can change. In these cases, training no longer only involves physical adaptation to effort, but the repetition of exercises can result in measured suffering.

The more intense the suffering, the more certain and rewarding the success will be, since the overcoming and the final triumph will compensate for the pain prior to its achievement.

However, many of us forget that the sacrifice for these people is greater than expected. We tend to applaud them when we see them reach the top, but we do not recognize the path they have taken to get there.

It is important not to forget that most of them sacrifice much more than time. Despite the successes derived from sport, they should be valued in their proper measure, since taking them to the extreme can destroy their goodness.

There is a well-known phrase that alludes to the need to also educate these people in spirit so that they do not forget what their path is, and it goes like this: “mens sana in corpore sano”.

Others start out on the path and end up far from it. For one reason or another, they end up rebuilding their lives and dedicating themselves to other occupations. In the end, sport is a school of life.
