Walk&Talk: the new out-of-office therapy

What is Walk&Talk?

It is a novel psychological intervention in Spain. It consists of carrying out the therapy while the patient and the specialist talk and walk, for example in a park, on the beach, in a cafeteria, etc.

The idea is based on carrying out the treatment in a quiet and pleasant place, while walking or sitting outdoors. In this way, you can take advantage of the good weather that the city of Malaga offers throughout the year.

For which cases is Walk&Talk indicated?

The treatment is especially focused for people who suffer from:

  • Stress
  • Discouragement
  • Anxiety
  • Low self-esteem
  • Insomnia
  • Discomfort

In many cases there is embarrassment, shyness, or reluctance to go to conventional consultations and this can be a good alternative. It also happens that patients refuse to stay in closed spaces or to be able to coincide with other people.

This therapy can be recommended for specific psychological alterations or cases in which it is necessary to observe the person in a natural environment, changes in lifestyle, problem solving or decision making, etc., are needed.

Finally, it can be useful to avoid displacement or to have a greater specialty.

What is the objective of Walk&Talk therapy?

We can distinguish different ones, among which we find:

  • Avoid waiting time
  • Save time
  • To be more relaxed, calm and confident during the course of the “conversation”.
  • Cardio-healthy effect of walking and the therapy itself.

In addition, it should be noted that it manages to avoid relating the consultation with an idea, unfortunately still somewhat stigmatized, of going to the psychologist.
