Painless technique to eliminate varicose veins

What is the foam-guided ultrasound technique?

This technique consists in the treatment of varicose veins in a simple way, performed in the office in a practically painless way. Prior to treatment we always perform a clinical and diagnostic study. The diagnosis is based on the Doppler ultrasound study that will allow us to perform a study of both the path and the abnormal functioning of these varicose veins. It also allows us to locate the points where we are going to perform this technique. Once we have made this diagnosis, what we do is inject a foam, a drug in the form of foam, inside the varicose vein. How do we inject it? We inject it clinically, in visible varicose veins, but above all in the veins that are not visible, those inner saphenous veins, with ultrasound control, supported by the use of ultrasound. Once we have performed this puncture, which is practically painless for the patient, we place an elastic stocking and the patient can return to normal activity without any restrictions for physical activity and work.

Which patients is this technique aimed at?

This technique is aimed at a large percentage of patients we see in the office who suffer from varicose veins. Most of these patients are susceptible to be treated with the technique. It also has a very good indication in those patients who have been previously operated on and in whom varicose veins have recurred, that is to say, a new reappearance of varicose veins.

Are the results definitive?

Bearing in mind that varicose veins is a disease that is considered chronic, the treatment with foam gives a very good initial and clinical result that lasts for a long time. As with any varicose vein treatment, it will require a little bit of maintenance in the future and that will depend on the particularity of each patient.

What care should a patient take after undergoing this procedure?

The patient does not really need to take any special precautions, it is simply advisable to wear an elastic stocking during the time the treatment lasts, it is also advisable to avoid excessive physical activity on the day of the puncture and, apart from this, normal physical activity and work can be carried out without any problem.
