Premature ejaculation: when it occurs and how to treat it

Premature ejaculation is a disorder of controversial definition. There are currently at least four different definitions with the following commonalities: the inability to control the timing of ejaculation, ejaculation before or just after vaginal penetration, and the consequences of subsequent remorse/stress.

The International Society of Sexual Medicine (ISSM) defines premature ejaculation as a male sexual dysfunction in which ejaculation always or almost always occurs before penetration or within one minute of penetration with inability to control it always or almost always and with consequences such as stress, remorse and even avoidance of sexual intercourse.

Solutions for premature ejaculation

Treatments for premature ejaculation currently used consist of psychological evaluation and treatment, application of local anesthetics to the glans to decrease sensitivity, and serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drugs.

At present, pharmacological treatment is the most effective initial treatment; Dapoxetine is an SSRI specifically indicated for premature ejaculation that has shown good results.
