Female Infertility, Causes and Treatment

What is infertility?

It is important to differentiate between infertility and sterility:

  • Infertility is the failure to achieve pregnancy at all. No matter how hard you try, you do not get pregnant.
  • Infertility is the achievement of one or more pregnancies but none reach the end.

Both can be primary, as we have defined them, or secondary, if there has been a previous live birth and then either no more pregnancies are achieved, or pregnancies are produced that do not reach the end. The causes of infertility can be male, female or both.

Causes of female infertility

  • Diseases suffered by the woman: diabetes, endocrinopathies, etc.
  • Alterations of the ovarian function.
  • Alterations of the uterus
  • Alterations or obstruction of the fallopian tubes.
  • Genetic diseases

To prevent infertility

It is complicated to prevent infertility because human couples are formed by feelings and/or emotions. It is not usual that they previously exchange requests for tests that prove the possibility of having children. However, a healthy life and diet, avoidance of toxic habits and good physical fitness can prevent diseases that affect human reproduction. It is advisable not to become obsessed with the subject and, in case of any doubt or problem, to consult a specialist.

Treatment of infertility

  • Depending on the cause: treating and compensating for the underlying disease that may be present.
  • If there is an infection, treating it.
  • With hormonal treatments, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc.
  • Improving dietary habits and / or toxic or lifestyle.
  • With surgery
  • With Assisted Reproduction Techniques
