Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Success

It is the most common sexual health problem among Spanish men, despite the fact that its recovery rate is “very high and surgery is rarely necessary”, according to urologist Enrique Pérez-Castro. We are referring to erectile dysfunction, which affects up to 20% of the Spanish population over the age of 40.

We speak of erectile dysfunction when a man suffers a total inability to achieve an erection or to do so consistently, as well as those cases in which he can only have brief erections.

What can cause erectile dysfunction?

Dr. Pérez-Castro is a specialist in erectile dysfunction, and points to “diabetes mellitus, major pelvic surgeries, rectal or prostate surgery for malignant tumors, as well as work or traffic accidents” as the main causes, and includes “psychological issues” such as stress, anxiety, depression or the fear of not knowing how to perform the sexual act. Tobacco can also be a trigger for erectile dysfunction as it affects the correct blood flow and hormone levels.

Is there a solution?

In spite of the high prevalence of erectile dysfunction, as Dr. Perez-Castro pointed out earlier, the success rate is very high due to the effectiveness of the treatments currently used.

Basically, the techniques are summarized in “oral medication, injectable medication in corpora cavernosa, suction devices (vacuum) and psychological treatment” and even “surgery, fundamentally penile prostheses” can be used.

Dysfunction, therefore, is a sexual problem that is often hidden, but which in reality, nowadays, has an effective solution in the hands of experts in Urology, as Dr. Pérez-Castro assures.
