Stem cells, also called pluripotent stem cells, are cells capable of performing specialized functions. There are adult and embryonic stem cells, the latter are the ones that, through the umbilical cord, can be frozen in order to use them in the future if a damaged tissue needs to be regenerated.
The cells used in Regenerative Medicine are mesenchymal cells extracted from the fat of an adult person. Traditionally, these cells were extracted through complex laboratory processes, using bone marrow or blood. Even so, the quantity and quality of these cells through these processes was not comparable to those obtained from the fat of the adult patient.
What does the liporevolution consist of?
Liporevolution means that the fat extracted in liposuction is no longer thrown away, but is reused either for regenerative medicine processes or for lipofilling: fat fillings in other areas of the body such as the breast, buttocks or face. One of the most revolutionary uses of fat is to extract the stromal vascular fraction, with a high content of stem cells that can be used to treat pathologies such as osteoarthritis, myocardial ischemia, complex ulcers, multiple sclerosis, COPD, pulmonary and renal fibrosis, radiated skin, etc.
What techniques are available?
Both SVF (stromal vascular fraction) extraction and lipofilling are possible by any liposuction technique, but Body Jet’s Agualipo is the only method in which the circuit that makes the fat is closed and sterile, ensuring cell survival and thus improving the rate of results both in regenerative medicine and in the percentage of the fat that is transplanted. In the case of SVF, this concentrated cocktail can be obtained in less than 45 minutes and under impeccable traceability conditions. Cell viability is also guaranteed and the cases treated have been successful.
There is still a long way to go, but there is currently the capacity to isolate this type of cells and infiltrate them in the subcutaneous plane to rejuvenate damaged cells and treat various pathologies, regenerate certain tissues or stop chronic pain.
